The under-pressure mayor of Toronto Rob Ford has admitted he smoked crack cocaine. He denied press allegations about it for months. Fighting back the tears, Ford apologised to Toronto citizens at an emotional press conference. He said he had let them down. He said he smoked the drug when he was drunk and that he was not a drug addict or an alcoholic. The Toronto police announced it had a video of him actually smoking the drug. The media had been running stories about his drug use for months but Ford continually denied them.

Despite calls for his resignation, Mr Ford said he would stay in office. He also vowed to fight for a second term in office at the next election. He said he would continue doing the job he was elected to do. He added: "I know I have to regain your trust and confidence." He told the public that he would never repeat his wrongdoing. At a press conference, he said: "Folks, I have nothing left to hide. I would do anything, absolutely anything to change the past, but the past is the past and we must move forward. I want to be crystal clear. These mistakes will never, ever, ever happen again."
