The Reading / Listening - Level 4

There will soon be a logo on menus in France to tell customers which items are home-made. France's government said French and international diners will have a better idea of what to order. The sign will be compulsory from January. Diners complained about the quality of food. The government hopes it will improve the quality. France is the home of fine dining. French food is world famous for its history, taste and presentation.

The French government hopes the logo will help tourism. Foreign tourists spend 13.5 per cent of their budget eating out. The government thinks better food will help tourism. It also wants to reduce processed food to help France's image for good food. Only about half of restaurant meals are cooked using fresh produce in the restaurant. Around 85 per cent of restaurants secretly use frozen food or vacuum-packed food.
