The Reading / Listening - Level 0

Things are not good for TV makers in the U.K. The number of homes with a TV fell for the first time ever. The number fell from 26.3 million in 2012 to 26 million in 2013 - a fall of 300,000. In 1956, only 30 per cent of homes had a TV in the U.K. This went up to 93 per cent in the 1970s.

The fall in TV ownership is because of tablets, mobile phones and laptops. People now record shows and watch them later on digital devices. About 47% of people watch the BBC iPlayer on tablets or mobiles. It was 25% in 2012. Fifteen per cent of 18-24-year-olds watch TV on a laptop. The U.K. average is 3%.
