The Reading / Listening - Level 0

People say Hollywood is run by "old white men". All 20 of the actors who could win an Oscar this year are white. No woman can win a directing or writing Oscar. There is too little diversity. The members of the academy are 94 per cent white, largely male, with an average age of 62. They decide who gets nominated for an Oscar.

A civil rights campaigner said the Academy is like the Rocky Mountains – "the higher you get, the whiter it gets". The movie nominated for this year's 'Best Picture' is about racism, but no non-white actors are nominated. The president of the Academy said the members do not look at an actor's colour or gender.
