Brazil 3 Cote d'Ivoire 1 (20th June, 2010)

Brazil showed glimpses of their brilliance in this efficient 3-1 victory over Cote d’Ivoire. They controlled the whole game and rarely let their opponents put together any attacks. This resulted in the Ivorians fouling Brazilian players. The referee missed two clear cut red cards from dangerous Ivorian tackles. Brazil’s Luis Fabiano scored twice. The first was a superb smash into the roof of the net from the edge of the six-yard box after picking up a beautiful through ball from playmaker Kaka. His second was another refereeing error – he clearly used one arm and then the other to maneuver past three players. Elano scored Brazil’s third before Didier Drogba headed in a reply for Cote d’Ivoire. The referee’s worst decision saw him send off Kaka with five minutes to go after Abdelkader Keita ran into him.
