Brazil 2 North Korea 1 (15th June, 2010)

North Korea were playing in their first World Cup since 1966. It didn’t show. Against Brazil, they looked like a capable and dangerous team. In fact, the Koreans, ranked 105th in the world, looked like they could cause an upset against the world number one. Brazil controlled the game throughout but found it difficult to break down the Korean defense. They had very few chances in the first half. Brazilian fans had to wait 55 minutes before their nerves were calmed. Defender Maicon scored what must be the goal of the tournament so far – a screamer from an impossible angle that beat the goalkeeper at the far post. The goal rattled the Koreans and gave Brazil more confidence. Elano got on the score sheet in the 72nd minute before Korea's Yun-nam Ji replied for his team with a minute to go.
