Switzerland 0 Honduras 0 (25th June, 2010)

Switzerland failed to progress to the last 16 because of their inability to finish in front of goal. They needed to win by a 2-goal margin to go through on goal difference in place of Chile. Spain’s 2-1 victory over the South Americans meant they leapfrogged Switzerland in the table to take second spot. Despite controlling the game, they could not turn their countless attempts at goal into a goal. Honduras ended the tournament alongside Algeria as the only sides not to score. Switzerland had wave after wave of attacks which always came to nothing. There were too many shots wide of the target or not enough players in the right places to score. The Swiss brought on  their top scorer Alexander Frei late on but he made little difference to an overall disappointing performance.
