The Death Valley National Park has appealed to visitors to stop trying to fry eggs on rocks or the ground. The park has had many people trying to see if it is hot enough to fry an egg, after a park employee posted a video on YouTube of her attempts to do so. The video, temperatures nearing 50°C, and the 100-year anniversary on Wednesday of the hottest place ever recorded, meant many people experimented, with messy results. Park cleaners are now busy cleaning egg shells, egg cartons, and the bad-smelling mess from unsuccessful attempts at a sunny-side up under the sun.

The park told people via Facebook not to fry eggs. They said: "[The] posting of frying an egg in a pan in Death Valley was…to demonstrate how hot it can get…, with the recommendation that if you do this, use a pan or tin foil and properly throw away the contents. However, the…maintenance crew has been busy cleaning up…egg cartons and shells [thrown] across the parking lot." It asked people to put trash in the garbage or recycle bins. Someone on YouTube joked that Saudi Arabia was so hot, "you can throw a chicken in the air and you will catch it cooked".
