Babies given away on Pakistan TV show
A talk show in Pakistan gave away two baby girls live on television. The show, called Aman Ramzan, is hosted by popular celebrity Aamir Liaquat Hussain. He gave the infants to two childless couples last month. His show usually gives away computers, motorbikes and other things. People think Mr Hussain gave away the babies so more people would watch his show during Ramadan. TV companies do their best during Ramadan to get people to watch their shows. CNN said the baby giveaway worked for Mr Hussain because more people watched his show. He will give away a baby boy next week. The babies were abandoned at a Karachi rubbish dump. A charity rescued them. It said it found babies left on the street or in garbage bins. Some of them are dead, while others are hurt by animals. It wants to make sure the babies live and find a good home. The charity does research on the parents. Parents must register and talk with the charity many times. New mother Soraya Bilquis said she waited for 17 years to get a child. She said her new daughter has made her life "complete". She said: "I can't describe how happy I am because someone will grow up and call me mother." |
