EU plans to stop cars speeding

The European Union (EU) wants to stop cars speeding. 30,000 people die each year on Europe's roads. It wants road deaths to fall by 30 per cent by the year 2020. It will use technology. Satellites will warn drivers about speed limits. The satellites can also put on the car's brakes. This will slow the car down to a safe speed.

People are not happy with this idea. It takes away their freedom. They do not want EU rules about how to drive. In Britain, 1,754 people died on the roads in 2011. This was the lowest number ever. In Germany, there were 3,657 deaths last year. Someone said the technology is dangerous. You cannot go faster if you have to.
