Samsung has unveiled its multi-function smartwatch – the Galaxy Gear. It is a different digital watch. It can make phone calls, receive emails and take photos. It can also run apps. Users move around different screens using swipes. It comes in six bright colours that give its body a a sci-fi feel. The $299 device will be on sale soon. Samsung beat its big rival Apple to the market. Insiders say Apple will release its smartwatch within a week or two.

There are mixed reactions to the Gear. One was that it is expensive and that it should be under $100 to appeal to people. $300 is the price of a smartphone.
