Syria says it will destroy chemical weapons
Syria's president, Bashar al-Assad, will destroy his chemical weapons. He said it will take a year. It will be difficult and very expensive. It is also bad for the environment. Mr Assad said it might cost $1 billion. He asked the U.S. to pay, and take the chemicals away. America might attack if Syria does not keep its promise. Russia said no to this. The president said rebels used sarin gas. Russia says this is true. America says Syria's army used the gas. Assad and Russia said America was wrong. Mr Assad said sarin gas is called kitchen gas because a rebel can make it in his house. He said Syria is in a new kind of war because the rebels are from over 80 countries. |
