Nissan develops paint to keep cars cooler

Nissan has made a new paint. It keeps cars that are parked in sunlight cooler. A car can be 12ÂșC cooler. The paint means using air conditioning less. This helps a car's battery. The paint was made with a Chinese company called Radi-Cool. Nissan said: "The project is part of [our] pursuit of…innovations that empower journeys, and help create a cleaner, more sustainable society." The paint is only available in white. Other colours may come in the future.

The "cool paint" project team work at Nissan's Research Center near Tokyo. It started testing the paint in 2021. It is six times thicker than standard paint. This means cars will be more expensive. The team leader said: "My dream is to create cooler cars without consuming energy." This is important because electric cars need battery power for air conditioners. Soon, ambulances that spend most of the day out driving will use the cool paint.
