France 0 Mexico 2 (17th June, 2010)

Mexico provided the second shock of the tournament by beating 1998 champions France 2-0. France are now in danger of exiting the tournament, with just one point from two games. Mexico deserved their win. They played with more desire throughout the game. The first half ended goalless but Mexico had more of the attacks and looked more likely to score. Mexico opened the scoring in the 64th minute. Javier Hernandez slipped past French ‘keeper Hugo Lloris to fire home a shot. France offered very little in response to being a goal down. Their aging superstars could not keep up with the dynamism of the more youthful Mexicans. Mexico sealed their victory with a penalty on 79 minutes. Pablo Barrera was tripped in the box and Cuauhtemoc Blanco put the ball in the back of the net from the penalty spot.
