Portugal 0 Brazil 0 (25th June, 2010)

The match the whole world was looking forward to turned out to be the most boring and disappointing game of the tournament. Possibly in the history of football. Brazil were already through and Portugal needed to avoid a 9-0 defeat to join them. This meant neither side put much effort into playing. A card-happy referee (seven yellows in the first-half) also helped destroy this event as a soccer game. Ronaldo tried for Portugal at times. He even looked dangerous once or twice, even though the danger came via 40-metre shots. Portugal’s goalkeeper Eduardo superbly stopped Brazil’s best chance – a close range shot from Nilmar. The ‘keeper saved again in the dying minutes to keep a clean sheet. The last time Brazil failed to score at the World Cup Finals was in 1978.
