England 1 USA 1 (12th June, 2010)

Could history repeat itself? Could the USA upset England at another World Cup, like they did in 1950? It ended 1-1, so not quite. England captain Steven Gerrard opened the scoring in the fourth minute. He took a lovely through ball from Heskie and cleverly stroked the ball past USA goalkeeper Tim Howard. The USA were the better team throughout the first half. Their equalizer came from a terrible goalkeeping error. Robert Green let a shot from Clint Dempsey slip through his hands and over the line. England coach Fabio Capello was not impressed. England had lots of possession and many chances in the second half but failed to find the net. Overall, this was another example of how England can disappoint in big games and proof that the USA can play football.
