The Netherlands won their game of the tournament against a very well- Japanese side. With six points, the Dutch must surely for the last 16. It was a very hard-fought match and Japan were to have lost. In the first half they had more of the on goal. They defended superbly and limited the Netherlands to just one shot on . Perhaps the Netherlands were trying to avoid another . They played with a lot of patience and did not allow Japan a lot of . Their goal came early in the second half. Wesley Sneijder's thunderous shot was too much for Japanese goalkeeper Kawashima, who failed to keep it out. Japan had a chance to the score in the 89th minute when Shinji Okazaki fired his shot over the bar from the of the 6-yard box.
