THE ARTICLEThe Iranian government has a plan for a billion dollar “love fund” to help young people. The money will help couples from poor families to get married and find a job and house. Vice-President Farhad Rahbar said on national television: “The love fund is a realization of the new government’s slogan - taking oil money to the tables of the people.” President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s election promise was to share oil revenues to create a more equal society. Iran is the world’s fourth biggest producer of crude oil. With oil hitting record prices, the government has an extra $24 billion to spend. Mr. Ahmadinejad will use $1.3 billion from this money for the love fund. His plan will also help reduce unemployment, which currently stands at 11 per cent.
