One Direction's movie premieres in London (22nd August, 2013)

The U.K. boy band One Direction created a frenzy in London when thousands of fans went to see their idols at the premiere of their first movie, "This Is Us". Some fans camped in London's Leicester Square for three days to get to see the band. The first 200 fans got tickets for a front-row, red-carpet experience. Organisers asked many fans to go home and watch the premiere live. They said: "We would like to remind fans that the red carpet is being streamed live all over the world, so they can get the best views from their own homes."

The scenes in London looked like the craziness of the Beatles in the 1960s. The movie's director told reporters: "This is probably the closest I'll get in my whole lifetime to seeing anything similar to Beatlemania….I just think it's remarkable." He added that it was the same worldwide, not just in the UK or USA: he said they are chased by hordes of fans everywhere and that 5,000 people camping outside the band's hotel in Mexico. He added that the band's popularity was growing. The band beat the Beatles by being the first UK group to have a debut single get to number one in the US.
