The Reading / Listening - Level 1

Nearly 100 students at an English university are angry about an economics exam. They signed an online petition saying the exam questions were 'impossible' to answer because they were on topics that were not in their course. They say some questions had a lot of difficult maths. Students said they were told they would only need 'simple' maths. They are worried that they will get lower test scores and a poorer degree. They want the university to help them.

The head of the department said the exam was fair. He said the level of maths was the same as the level the students studied. He also said students had studied the topics: "All questions were based on topics taught in the course and…further reading was provided." He said one question used a new term, but this was no problem because the question explained the meaning of the term. The university says it will look carefully at the results.
