The Reading / Listening - Champs-Elysees - Level 0

The mayor of Paris wants to change the city's famous Champs-Elysees. She wants to turn the street into an "extraordinary garden". People say it is, "the most beautiful avenue in the world". However, some people think it looks old. The mayor will cut the number of cars to make more room for shoppers.

The Champs-Elysees was full of luxury car showrooms and expensive fashion stores. Many rich people shopped there. Today, it is full of chain stores, fast food restaurants and coffee shops. The mayor said: "We will redo [one area] before the Olympic Games...It will be an extraordinary garden." It will cost $305 million.
