The Reading / Listening - Car Battery - Level 1

Electric cars will replace petrol cars in the future. This will cut CO2 levels in the atmosphere. Charging the battery is a problem. Some batteries take up to 12 hours to charge. A company has made a lithium-ion battery that can charge in just five minutes. This is how long it takes to fill a tank of gas with petrol. The new batteries were created by an Israeli company. They are being made by a company in China.

The new batteries could change driving. Electric cars will travel as far as petrol cars. Electric cars can give people "range anxiety". This is worrying about the battery running out of power. Drivers are afraid they will get stuck on a highway, or will have to sit in a charging station for two hours. A spokesperson said there will be "a revolution" in charging batteries. He said the switch from petrol to electric will happen quickly.
