The Reading / Listening - Wordle - Level 1

The New York Times has bought Wordle. The paper is well known for its games. Wordle is a new online game. It was first uploaded in October. It is now a worldwide craze. Social media sites are full of posts from people playing it and sharing their score. The New York Times paid "in the low seven figures" for Wordle. It was excited to publish the game. It wrote: "We could not be more thrilled to become its new home." It was "proud" of this "magical game".

Wordle's creator is a software engineer. He made his game for his partner to play. He was surprised that 90 people played it on the day of its release. Millions now play it every day. The creator said: "The game has got bigger than I ever imagined." Wordle players have to guess a five-letter word. They get feedback on which of the letters they have used are correct. The New York Times said that "initially" the game would stay free.
