The Reading / Listening - King Charles III - Level 1

Britain's King Charles is an environmentalist. He spoke about climate change dangers before world leaders did. He was going to the COP27 climate change conference next month. However, his plans changed. Many U.K. newspapers say King Charles is not going because Britain's new prime minister, Liz Truss, asked him not to. A royal expert said: "He had to think very carefully about what steps to take for his first overseas tour."

Newspapers are reporting that Charles disagrees with Ms Truss on climate change. Truss is a new leader, but she has already lifted a ban on fracking. Fracking risks environmental damage and earthquakes. Charles has a history of "declaring war" on climate change. At COP21 in 2015, he called for "trillions, not billions, of dollars" to fight it. U.S. President Biden praised King Charles for his leadership on climate change. He said: "We need you badly."
