Pakistan and India have announced a ceasefire. The two nuclear-armed nations have come close to war. This is because of an attack on India-controlled Kashmir in which 26 civilians died. India blamed Pakistan for the attack. Pakistan strongly denied this. Both countries have launched strikes on each other. Pakistan said it targeted military sites in India after India fired missiles at air bases in Pakistan.

Both countries are accusing each other of violating the truce. Pakistan said the country is "committed to a faithful implementation of the ceasefire". India said it was sticking to the truce. It said India would retaliate if it was attacked. It warned it was "ready to launch whatever operations may be required in defence of the nation". Donald Trump urged both parties to find ways to de-escalate the situation. He offered assistance in starting talks.
