The car maker Hyundai has plans to introduce 30,000 humanoid robots into its car plants. This will take place over the next decade. The humanoids are called Atlas. They are being made by Hyundai's subsidiary Boston Dynamics. Atlas was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show. Hyundai stated that Atlas would advance human-robot collaboration and would assist in "evolving hardware-driven robotics…designed to amplify human potential". Hyundai's vice-chairperson acknowledged that people could lose their jobs because of Atlas. He added that people would be needed to train it.
A life-sized Atlas was put through its paces in Las Vegas. It wowed people with a flawless display of its skills. Its movements were very human-like as it turned, swung its arms, marched around, and demonstrated great balance. Hyundai said the humanoids would work with human staff. The robots will learn movements and improve through AI software. Boston Dynamics said: "The convergence of robotics and AI represents more than a technological advancement. It is a transformative innovation that will make human life safer and more enriching."
