Argentina 3 Mexico 1 (27th June, 2010)

Argentina beat Mexico in the last-16 stage for the second World Cup in a row. They now play Germany, who they also met at the quarter-finals of the 2006 tournament. Argentina were helped by yet another poor refereeing decision. Carlos Tevez’s opener for Argentina was several metres offside. Despite the whole Mexican team surrounding the linesman in protest, pointing at the replay on the big screen, the goal stood. Mexico never recovered - they had played some lovely possession football but lost the plot after going a goal down. Gonzalo Higuain slotted in a second for Argentina after 33 minutes. Tevez scored his second seven minutes into the second half - a stunning long-range drive to put Argentina firmly in the driving seat. Mexico pulled one back through Javier Hernandez but it was little more than a consolation goal.
