New Zealand 1 Slovakia 1 (15th June, 2010)

This was the poorest game of the World Cup so far. The whole game lacked any creativity, ideas or excitement. It was New Zealand’s first appearance at the Finals for 28 years and on this performance, not so difficult to see why. They had few opportunities on goal and rarely put together a good series of passes. The game’s first goal came in the 50th minute. Robert Vittek cut inside NZ defender Winston Reid to head the ball into the far corner. There was a hint of offside but hey, this game needed something to keep the fans awake. The equalizer provided some excitement in the final minute of the game. Winston Reid headed in from eight yards to give New Zealand their first ever World Cup point. Both teams must improve if they want more points.
