Finding cause of Asiana crash could take years (9th July, 2013)

Air crash investigators have said it could take years to find the cause of the Asiana Airlines flight that crash-landed at San Francisco's airport on Saturday. Deborah Hersman, head of the USA's National Transportation Safety Board said it was too early to think about pilot error. Many analysts have already said that it probably wasn't mechanical error. They said the Boeing 777 aircraft has an excellent safety record. One expert told reporters that we could be years away from knowing what happened. What is known is that the plane was flying too slowly as it came in to land.

After firefighters put out the flames from the burning aircraft, survivors described the horror of getting out of the aircraft. They said it was a miracle that 305 people got out alive, although two Chinese students died. Passengers praised the professionalism, quick thinking and unselfishness of the cabin crew. One of them, Jiyeon Kim, carried an injured passenger to safety on her back. A survivor described the bravery of Ms Kim, saying: "She was a hero. This tiny, little girl was…running everywhere, with tears running down her face…but she was still so calm."
