No frying eggs in Death Valley, says park (13th July, 2013)

The Death Valley National Park has asked visitors to stop frying eggs on rocks. Many people have tried to see if it is hot enough to fry eggs after they saw a park worker doing so on YouTube. That video, 50°C heat, and the 100-year anniversary of the hottest place ever recorded, meant many people tried frying eggs in the park. Park cleaners are now busy cleaning up egg shells, egg cartons, and the smelly mess from eggs that didn't go sunny-side up.

The park told people via Facebook that the video of frying an egg in a pan in Death Valley was to show how hot it could get. It said people should use a pan, tin foil and then throw away the contents in the garbage or recycle bins. Maintenance crews have been busy cleaning up egg cartons and shells thrown across the parking lot. Someone on YouTube joked that Saudi Arabia was so hot, "you can throw a chicken in the air and you will catch it cooked".
