The Reading / Listening - Level 4

China's expedition to the Moon sent back its first photos of the surface. The Jade Rabbit rover is the first to drive on the Moon for 40 years. Chinese scientists were very happy with the photos. They were of an area called the Bay of Rainbows. They showed the Chinese flag on the rover. Jade Rabbit will do tests ahead of the possible mining of the Moon's resources. China said its mission was an important part of exploring "the peaceful use of space".

A China newspaper said the Moon landing was a great achievement. It showed the importance of China as a space power. It added that nothing compared with the scientific significance of the Moon landing. The mission means China's dream of putting a man on the moon will happen sooner rather than later. Chinese science fiction writers are also happy. One said: "I think everything will look differently when a Chinese person looks at Earth from the Moon."
