READING:

New York is the world's most fashionable city. It won the 2014 Top Global Fashion Capital contest. London won in 2011 and 2012, but was third this year, behind Paris. Los Angeles was fourth, while Barcelona followed in fifth place. Italy's highest city was Rome, in sixth place. Milan, a long-established centre of style, finished twelfth. A New York fashion expert said New York earned its top ranking because of its discipline and creativeness.

New York being crowned winner coincides with the city's upcoming Fashion Week - a week of glamour, supermodels and fashions from top designers. The fashion expert said new cities are becoming famous for fashion. She said a "creative energy" worldwide was providing jobs, income and wealth. She said a city exporting its fashion sense was good for its image. Cities like Shanghai, St. Petersburg and New Delhi all did well in the contest.
