Horror movies about superbugs killing people might come true. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said the medicines that we use to keep away diseases no longer work. Bugs have become stronger. The WHO said this is a big danger and that nobody is safe. The superbugs can kill people in rich and poor countries. The WHO looked at data from 114 countries. It said antibiotics that worked 30 years ago do not work now about 50% of the time.
The WHO described a scary future in which antibiotics do not work. It said: "Common infections and minor injuries which have been treatable for decades can once again kill." Malaria and influenza will be killer diseases again. This is happening globally. It is not just a regional problem. It is happening in poor, developing and rich countries. The WHO said: "'This is something which is occurring in all countries in the world."
