Google is catching up with Apple and Samsung to be market leader in wearable health software. It is working on a device called Google Fit to rival Apple's and Samsung's fitness devices. Sources say the company is working overtime so as not to get left behind. Google will be the first company to provide a device using the Android operating system. This is the second time for Google in this market. Its first product was Google Health, which was not so popular with consumers as it did not offer the kind of information fitness enthusiasts and those into health were after.
An industry insider revealed that Google Fit is a wearable device that measures data like the number of steps people walk or run, or their heart rate. This information will be linked with Google’s cloud-based services. The company is trying to keep details of the final product a secret. The TechCrunch website said Google Fit would track all sorts of health data, such as weight, heart rate, run times, and body-building stats. It added that users would be able to sync this information to their Google IDs. This would make their data accessible anywhere, on any app or device.
