READING:

A report found over half of high school boys and two-thirds of girls never shower after sports at school. Students might not want to sweat and so they are less active. The lead researcher was surprised at how rarely students showered. He said children's fitness levels were declining and added: "If the unwillingness to shower is a barrier to working up a sweat or playing sport, it's something we need to tackle to promote activity at schools."

We do not know the exact reasons why students do not shower. Maybe it's a fear of bullying and humiliation. Many children do not like undressing in front of others. A spokeswoman for a health organisation said children worry about their body image. She said schools had a role to play in changing attitudes. She said schools should encourage students to do physical activity and sweat, and let them know they need to shower after.
