The Reading / Listening - Methane Emissions - Level 2

We know cars and factories create lots of greenhouse gas. Not many of us know that cows, deer and goats also create gasses. These farm animals create a lot of the world's methane. This is the second most common greenhouse gas, after carbon dioxide. Billionaire Bill Gates wants to cut the methane farm animals create. He invested in a technology start-up that aims to reduce the methane in animal burps. The company is called Rumin8. It has created a seaweed-based supplement. The company says this stops the creation of methane in animals' stomachs.

Bill Gates co-founded Microsoft. He invests a lot of money on environmental projects. He thinks we should farm animals for meat less. He said this would lower the impact on climate change. A third of all greenhouse gas emissions comes from farming animals. Mr Gates' energy investment company spoke about the benefits of the new supplement. He said: "Rumin8 offers a low-cost toolbox that [is] effective in reducing emissions." He added: "Our team will support Rumin8 in working closely with farmers to expand the reach of this solution globally."
