There is a three-month state of emergency in Turkey after two deadly earthquakes. The powerful quakes hit nine hours apart. The first was a magnitude 7.5 and the second was 7.8. They are two of the biggest quakes ever in Turkey. They caused a lot of death and damage in Turkey and Syria. Turkey's president warned of a "large number of aftershocks". Search and rescue teams are trying to reach the disaster areas. The conditions and weather are terrible.

The world is giving support to Turkey and Syria. The EU sent 1,150 rescue workers. Emergency teams are giving essential health care for the injured people. Mexico sent a team of dogs who are experts in finding survivors. The U.S. president was "deeply saddened by the loss of life". He promised to give "any help that is needed". Germany said: "We mourn with the victims and fear for those buried." Syria has already suffered for years from war.
