READING:

Israel and Hamas started a 72-hour ceasefire on Friday. The pause in hostilities was the work of the United Nations and the USA. The truce will let Gazans restock on food and medicines. They also need to repair power stations destroyed in the fighting. Israelis and Palestinians will also meet in Egypt to talk about a permanent truce. They will talk about resolving the big differences that have caused unrest for decades.

Hamas said it would follow the ceasefire. It said the situation of Palestinians made all "resistance factions" to agree to "mutual calm”. He said Israel must also follow it. On Thursday, the Israeli Prime Minister said his country would continue to destroy tunnels under the Gaza-Israel border. The USA called the ceasefire "precious time." They said it was an important "moment" for the Palestinians and Israel to come together and talk.
