READING:

A report says money does not help children to pass exams. Parents could be wasting their money by doing this. Researchers said taking children on a trip could get them to try harder and do better. Researchers looked at how promises of cash and days out affected the studying and learning of over 10,000 students. Many students tried harder in class and did more homework, but this did not help their test scores.

A researcher said the report looked at the wrong things. He said it needed to look at what got students to work harder. He said some students have many goals and believe that education can help them in life. Other kids think that working hard makes no difference. These children might think exam success is from genes and family background. An expert said good teachers were most important, especially for children from poorer families.
