The Reading / Listening - Reclusiveness - Level 2

Many people stay at home and do not want to go out. They shut themselves off from the world and do not want to meet other people. They are recluses. South Korea has an idea for these people to "re-enter society". It will pay people $500 a month to leave their home. The payment will be for poor and lonely people aged nine to 24. South Korea's government said it wanted to help younger people. It said it wants young people to go out. The government will support people's mental and emotional stability, and their health.

Korea says about 3.1 per cent of young Korean people are reclusive. They have big difficulties in living a normal life. They shut themselves off from society for many reasons. These include bullying, exam stress, family problems, technology and social media. The government said the $500-a-month payment will help these people. The money means the young people could have fewer mental and health problems. Korea has an ageing society. It needs young people to work so they can help old people.
