Jurassic World has broken box office records around the world. It is the first movie to make more than $500 million on its opening weekend. Ticket sales in the US were $204 million. In China, they were $100 million. A media analyst said about Jurassic World's opening weekend record: "No one saw this coming." The record for the most successful movie on an opening weekend in the US is still held by The Avengers. This took $207 million in 2012. The success of Jurassic World surprised many industry experts. They thought the film would only make $100 million in the USA.
Jurassic World is the fourth part of the Jurassic Park series. The first was Jurassic Park in 1993. The latest movie was the most popular film in all 66 countries where it was released. There are many reasons for this. One reason is because many parents who watched the first Jurassic Park when they were children took their own kids to see Jurassic World. Another reason is because the movie opened in China and in the US on the same weekend. It is unusual for a movie to be released at the same time in both countries. China is the world's second biggest film market.
